After Manchester United fired Erik ten Hag and named Ruben Amorim as his replacement, Cristiano Ronaldo made his first public statement. In his first interview as manager yesterday (Friday), the Portuguese legend’s countryman impressed supporters after beginning work at Carrington on Monday.

After an intense argument with Ten Hag, which he exacerbated in a shocking interview with Piers Morgan while still a member of the squad, Ronaldo left Old Trafford in November 2022.

The 39-year-old striker attacked Ten Hag and other club officials, saying he didn’t “respect” the Dutchman and that he felt “betrayed” by attempts to evict him.

Ronaldo wished the team and its supporters well after leaving United for the second time before finalising his transfer to Al-Nassr, which marked the beginning of Saudi Arabia’s high-profile football boom.

After collecting his 215th cap against Poland last night, Ronaldo scored his 134th and 135th goals for Portugal, giving him 68 goals in 79 games for Al-Nassr.

With his 40s approaching, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner reminded the public why he is still one of the most formidable strikers in the world with a magnificent bicycle kick for his second goal.

When asked about Amorim’s arrival at United after full-time, Ronaldo tweeted more well wishes to his former international teammate and old club.

“I wish him [Amorim] all the luck in the world, that’s what Manchester needs,” Ronaldo said to reporters.

The Premier League trip to Ipswich Town on November 24, Amorim’s first game as United’s head coach, is generating a lot of excitement and anticipation.

Given that Kieran McKenna’s team will be celebrating their first victory since rejoining the top division at Tottenham, the drop onto Portman Road might be challenging.

However, Amorim has assured supporters that they would see a clear vision right away, something that was lacking for the majority of Ten Hag’s tenure.

“I believe you’ll have an idea. The 39-year-old told MUTV, “I don’t know if you’ll like it or not, but you’ll see an idea.”

“A placement will be visible to you. Something that we want to get to that level will be visible to you. That’s what you’ll experience.

“We must be aware that there are roughly two practices prior to the first game. The world’s greatest league is this one. If I must tell you one thing, though, it’s that you’ll get an idea. I can assure you of this.

Amorim continued, “The most important thing for me, at this moment, is to create the principles, the identity and the character that we had in the past.”
