The trophy that Chelsea and 31 other international football teams will compete for at the first-ever redesigned Club World Cup next summer has been formally revealed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

With the Blues returning to action earlier than anticipated, summer will look very different for Enzo Maresca, his Chelsea players, and the team’s supporters. The United States will host the first-ever redesigned FIFA Club World Cup after a post-season international break at the beginning of June.

The club had received two invites in its earlier incarnation, which was a mid-season competition for only the few continental champions from the previous term. They lost to Brazilian team Corinthians in 2012, but they came back in 2021 and defeated Palmeiras in the championship match.

As a result of the system’s recent changes, Chelsea, English rivals Manchester City, other European rivals, and teams from other continents—a total of 32 teams—have been invited to participate. The UEFA representatives were chosen based on their coefficient score, which uses results from the preceding five seasons to determine a European club’s ranking.

The clubs will be grouped into four-person teams and will compete against each other in knockout stages until the competition’s victor is determined, much like the Men’s FIFA World Cup for international teams.

Invitees were already aware that they would receive approximately €50 million (£41.5 million) for attending, that additional incentives would be given depending on performance, and that the winner would receive €100 million (£83.1 million) in prize money. However, as of yet, they had not really seen the trophy they would be obtaining.

In their most recent announcement, FIFA revealed the gold reward, which was made by Tiffany and Co., an American jewellery company. It has ‘inscriptions of all 211 FIFA Member Associations, vivid images of the game and words in 13 languages and Braille,’ according to the description, and is ‘inspired by pioneering trips, the periodic table, astronomy and space travel’s iconic Voyager Golden Records’.

“Creative, inclusive, groundbreaking, truly global,” Infantino continued in an Instagram post. The trophy for the new 32-club FIFA Club World Cup should symbolise all of this.

“I am pleased to present the FIFA Club World Cup trophy, which was created by FIFA and made in partnership with Tiffany and Co. A golden trophy that is both a representation of the future and a nod to the past, it is both distinguished and classic.

“The universe of club football will be in the hands of the team who raises this trophy. History belongs to the players that lift this prize. When the sole “FIFA club world champion” hoists the trophy in New York, New Jersey on July 13, 2025, let’s celebrate and take it to the globe as we usher in a new era for football.”

Chelsea has not yet been informed of their tournament group opponents; that information will be revealed at a draw on December 5 at 6 p.m.

The amount of players suffering chronic injuries throughout the regular football season is drawing attention to the event even if it is still months away. The Blues and their rivals would have just one month to rest and get ready for the 2025–2026 season after the final date.
