During the first few minutes of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Liverpool, the Uruguayan player looked to smash his head on the ground as he was stooping to head a corner kick.

Rodrigo Bentancur, a midfielder for Tottenham, experienced an unfortunate fall during the opening seconds of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final match against Liverpool. He required oxygen and had to be removed from the pitch on a stretcher.

During the seventh minute of the match, the Uruguayan midfielder made an effort to meet a corner kick that came from the right side of the field. However, he was unsuccessful in meeting the ball and fell to the ground, where he lay prone on the grass.

Before players from both teams promptly alerted medical personnel to Bentancur’s condition, the match was quickly paused to allow him to receive care. Pedro Porro was the first Tottenham player to arrive at the scene of the incident. While the midfielder was lying on the ground, the medical staff administered oxygen to him.

After a lengthy delay of almost nine minutes, he was removed from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a stretcher to the cheers of fans from every nook and cranny of the venue. Brennan Johnson was then brought in to take his place.

During the eleven minutes of stoppage time that were played in the first half of the match, Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah also pulled up with an injury and was replaced by Wataru Endo. The match ended with 11 minutes of stoppage time.

At the moment that he was replaced, Tottenham posted on their X account, “We’re all with you, Lolo.” This was followed by the following statement at halftime: “We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking, and will go to hospital for further checks.”

At the time of the incident, Spurs midfielder Michael Brown, who is working as a co-commentator on the match for BBC Radio Five Live, stated, “I think those players pretty much know what it is [Bentancur’s injury], but then also you’ve got to try and focus because the game is about to start.” Brown is now working as a co-commentator on the match.

“Things can change very quickly, which is when the management team needs to be on point, looking to see what details are occurring,” I am just waiting, but this is going to be a very lengthy hold. Liverpool is all around the six-yard area. “A significant cause for concern.”

Bentancur has just played in his third domestic encounter since returning from a seven-game suspension for making racist remarks about South Korean citizens in an interview during the summer. These remarks were made in reference to his teammate Son Heung-min.
