After fans took notice of the Manchester United legend’s latest Instagram activity, Roy Keane seemed to retract two of his statements.

Many people consider the 53-year-old Manchester United star to be among the greatest midfielders and leaders in Premier League history.

In 1993, Roy Keane, a dominant box-to-box midfielder in his prime, moved to Old Trafford after being acquired by United from Nottingham Forest for £3.75 million.

After Eric Cantona abruptly retired in 1997, the former United midfielder rose to the position of captain after excelling in the middle of the park for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Keane was greatly recognised for his leadership abilities while he was at Old Trafford, where he notably led United to their historic treble victory in 1999.

Under former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, the former Red Devils captain won four FA Cups, seven Premier League championships, and a Champions League trophy.

During his incredible playing career, Keane made 476 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 51 goals and dishing out 39 assists for United.

After his disagreement with Ferguson, who fired Keane from the Premier League team, the United legend’s tenure at Old Trafford abruptly ended in 2005.

Before ending his illustrious playing career in 2006, Roy Keane played the rest of his career for Celtic, a Scottish team.

Following his career, the former Nottingham Forest player went into teaching and management, where Keane oversaw Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

Since leaving coaching, Keane has established himself as a prominent voice in Sky Sports punditry and a regular on The Overlap’s Stick to Football program.

Keane, who is renowned for his tough demeanour both on and off the pitch, posted a picture of himself with the late comedian Ricky Gervais on Instagram.

Keane shared the photo with his 2.2 million followers and captioned it, “Good day at the office.”

With the Gervais photo, Keane violates two rules.
Keane’s selfie with Ricky Gervais seemed to violate two of his own rules, as fans quickly pointed out in the comments section.

Keane, who had previously referred to smiling as one of the three most overrated things, was delightfully made fun of for smiling beside the legendary former Office star.

He stated on The Overlap’s Stick to Football broadcast in 2023 that “parties, smiling, and fireworks are the three most overrated things in life.”

“They serve no purpose. I’m telling you. I will never attend a party again. It’s strange.

Keane talked to Gary Neville, a veteran of United, about the occasion when he didn’t approach boxing great Muhammad Ali for a picture during another appearance on an Overlap video.

“Remember when we travelled to London for the BBC? In 2021, he declared, “We won Sports Team of the Year.”

Did you manage to snap a picture with Muhammad Ali? Remember when Muhammad Ali was present?

The United legend went on: “Listen, if I was [going to] go for anybody, that would have been the perfect scenario. However, if you recall, all of the guys went over after the show ended.

“I recall saying, ‘Leave him alone.'” And I’m happy I did. He was elderly. He wasn’t feeling good. However, I would have a picture of that one.

Following his photo opportunity with Gervais, Keane has finally relaxed his position on photos and smiled.
