According to sources, Manchester United has decided not to pursue Thomas Tuchel as their preferred choice to succeed Erik ten Hag in the upcoming campaign. The Red Devils have not yet decided what to do with their current manager, as INEOS is taking their time to consider if he is the best candidate for the position.

Since it was revealed that Tuchel would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the previous season, he has been one of the favourites to take over at United. Despite his Champions League winning history, it appears INEOS is no longer as enthusiastic in bringing him to Old Trafford.

According to The Independent, United want to wait it out in the hopes that Gareth Southgate will be free to take Ten Hag’s post following the Euros. There are rumours that Southgate is the club’s top target and that he might be interested in accepting the position.

But the England manager is totally focused on getting his team to the Euros, and he won’t entertain any offers until after the competition. He is contracted through the end of the year, so in order to appoint him, United would need to work out a compensation plan with the FA.

Notwithstanding Southgate’s lack of club experience since leaving Middlesbrough in 2009, INEOS are believed to admire his leadership abilities. They see him as the ideal candidate to oversee a culture revolution at Old Trafford, much like he did when he succeeded Roy Hodgson as England’s manager eight years ago.

To have any hope of getting Southgate to replace Ten Hag as United’s manager the following season, it appears like United will have to wait it out. They have also looked over a lot of other options, but they haven’t come up with anything as distinctive as Southgate’s.

Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, and a few more contenders have also been connected to the Red Devils. Additionally, it was reported that they had a conversation with the agents of Kieran McKenna prior to the former United manager agreeing to a new deal at Ipswich Town.

Southgate last led Middlesbrough from 2006 to 2009. He hasn’t been a club manager for more than ten years. Although talks with United were reportedly held earlier this month, it appears that any more negotiations will have to wait until after the Euros.
