According to reports, Manchester United has agreed to pay a staggering £60 million to acquire Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, two of Bayern Munich’s best defenders.

As part of a major defence revamp, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to join West Ham United in a separate £15 million transfer. In response to a wave of preseason injuries that raised concerns about a recurrence of the disastrous availability problems from the previous season, INEOS has been working behind the scenes to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s team.

United is prepared to bolster their defence in front of Friday’s Premier League opener at Old Trafford versus Fulham.

McClaren choice

United has reached an agreement to sign De Ligt for an initial fee of £39 million plus £4 million in add-ons, according to The Athletic.

According to reports, Wan-Bissaka’s medical is set for Sunday or Monday before he officially signs with Julen Lopetegui as his seventh summer addition.

Due to ongoing injury concerns, De Ligt’s arrival solves a position that has been a concern for United since the beginning of the previous campaign.

The only centre backs available for Ten Hag’s Community Shield matchup against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday were Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Jonny Evans.

Leny Yoro, who spent £59 million to sign with Arsenal earlier this summer, will be sidelined for approximately three months due to a foot injury sustained in a preseason game.

Additionally sidelined is Victor Lindelof. But there are rumours that he may be on the verge of departing, and De Ligt might hasten that process.

De Ligt and Mazraoui’s anticipated arrivals will increase United’s summer spending to an incredible £155.5 million for four new players.

Wan-Bissaka is set to follow Alvaro Fernandez, Willy Kambwala, Donny van de Beek, and Mason Greenwood as the fifth senior player to depart from Old Trafford.

United will have made £63 million from player sales after he completes his transfer to West Ham, increasing their current net expenditure to £92.5 million.

The Red Devils may decide to concentrate on strengthening Ten Hag’s midfield at this point. Any more agreements, though, might depend on Casemiro or Scott McTominay making room.
