Manchester United have renewed their interest in an English striker due to recent injuries suffered by their players.
Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro have sustained severe dual injuries, prompting Manchester United to intensify its endeavours to acquire a forward and a central defender.

Acquisition worth £52 million Yoro is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months after fracturing his metatarsal in the preseason match against Arsenal in California last weekend.

Hojlund was forced to exit the game as a result of a hamstring injury, which would sideline him for a duration of six weeks.

Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta, served as United’s sole designated centre forward in the previous season, managing to score 14 goals in his inaugural year.

Compounding the issue, United encountered additional injury setbacks during their pre-season victory against Real Betis in the early hours of Thursday morning, as Marcus Rashford and Antony were compelled to leave the pitch due to injuries.

United have expressed a strong desire to bring in additional players to strengthen the team, including the acquisition of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee over the next summer.

According to The Daily Telegraph, United may expedite their preparations due to Erik ten Hag’s interest in an additional alternative for the forward position following the departure of Hojlund.

Ivan Toney, a prominent player from Brentford, is being evaluated as a potential choice. The English player has a remaining contract of only one year in west London, and the Bees are aiming to secure a sum of approximately £50m for the 28-year-old.

United had also intended to recruit an additional central defender, either Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt or Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, as their preferred choices.

United have had two offers for Branthwaite turned down by Everton, despite reports that he had already agreed to personal terms for a transfer to Old Trafford.

The club is also maintaining communication with Bayern regarding de Ligt, who is eager to join and be reunited with his former Ajax manager, ten Hag.

United’s most recent offer for the Netherlands international was £30m, but Bayern, who are seeking a fee of £42m, rejected it.

On 10 August, United will face Manchester City in the Community Shield, which marks the beginning of the new season. Their Premier League campaign will start against Fulham in a little over two weeks.
