Mason Mount, a midfielder for Manchester United, feels there are many good things to take away from the painful penalty shootout loss to Manchester City.

With the Premier League season starting on Friday against Fulham, the former Chelsea player thinks Erik ten Hag’s will be prepared. After winning the FA Cup final in May, they were unable to cause their rivals any more suffering on Saturday when they lost 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after regular time.

Bruno Fernandes, the captain of United, led the line as the Dutchman set up a 4-2-3-1 formation for Mount. But after 58 minutes, the 36-time England international was benched and replaced by Scott McTominay.

The 25-year-old stated on Instagram, “Not the outcome we hoped for yesterday, but plenty of positives to build on.” “We’ll be ready for Friday!”

After first arriving at Old Trafford for £55 million from Stamford Bridge, Mount’s first season was marred by injuries. His playing stint under Ten Hag was cut short due to a calf injury, limiting him to just 14 Premier League matches (20 in total).

Prior to the Community Shield, the ex-Ajax manager gave a glowing speech about Mount. “We know he’s a top-tier player and he’s just bringing his skills in,” he stated.

“We are thrilled that he had a fantastic preseason after a very difficult and unfortunate season the previous year due to numerous injuries.

“If he stays healthy, I’m sure he will now be helping the club going forward. That is relevant to each and every player.”
