According to a source, Arsenal is prepared to match the €50 million release clause that would allow them to recruit Nico Williams from Athletic Club. However, in order to do so, they must do so before a rival suitor, and doing so would result in an existing star switching positions.

Williams has now completed three full seasons at Athletic, during which he has been a regular member of the first team. As he plans the next step in his career, the 21-year-old Williams appears to be more inclined to move away from Bilbao than his elder brother, Inaki Williams, who has remained a one-club guy throughout his whole career.

An article published by Football Transfers has just made the shocking assertion that Arsenal are “prepared” to pay the release clause in Nico Williams’ contract, which is around €50 million (£42.6 million).

On the other hand, they will need to move swiftly since there have been allegations that Paris Saint-Germain are also planning to do the same thing.

Additionally, TEAMtalk is able to disclose that he is included on Chelsea’s shortlist of winger targets, which also includes Michael Olise, a great player for Crystal Palace football club.

There is currently no indication as to which club Williams would choose to join; nonetheless, Arsenal appears to be making preparations for a future in which he will be a member of their team.

Arsenal intends to make a positional adjustment in order to accommodate Williams.
According to Football Transfers, Mikel Arteta has started to consider the possibility of utilising Gabriel Martinelli as a rotation option on the right wing. This would make it possible for Williams to be Arsenal’s first-choice left winger.

Williams has made the most of his 36 appearances this season as a left winger, which is the position that Martinelli often plays for Arsenal. Over the course of these games, Williams has created 17 assists and scored seven goals.

Although Arteta’s primary choice on the right-hand side is Bukayo Saka, there have been concerns over the possibility of overusing him for a considerable amount of time. Beginning to switch around who plays on the right side of the field, with the help of additional competition on the left side, would help alleviate any concerns.

With that being said, Arsenal already has Leandro Trossard on their roster, and he is a player that can play on the left side. Because of this, they will need to give serious consideration to the composition of their team.

That is not to mention the fact that one of their most crucial goals for the summer is to find a dependable centre striker who can lead their attack. This is arguably even more vital than adding to their flanks, where they have room for improvement in terms of numbers, but where they are pretty well stocked in contrast.

Competitors in the courtship Although both Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have a large number of attackers in their current squads, they are constantly on the lookout for individuals who may help them develop. Although Williams has a lot of potential, ambitious organisations won’t want to pass up the opportunity to sign him.

His contract at Bilbao is scheduled to expire in 2027, but it will be of no consequence if the release clause in his contract is activated by a new team that he is interested in joining.
