Ruben Amorim is reportedly set to hold talks with Manchester United coach Darren Fletcher after arriving in the UK

Some United supporters were incensed that Ruben Amorim chose to retain Darren Fletcher as first team coach, asking why Ruud van Nistelrooy couldn’t have been given a job of some kind.

After visiting Manchester United’s Carrington training facility, new manager Ruben Amorim is scheduled to meet with Darren Fletcher on Tuesday.

After flying into Manchester this week and choosing to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy out of his coaching staff after the Dutchman led the squad to three victories out of four while serving as interim manager, Amorim has been making his mark on the team.

He chose to retain Fletcher as first team coach, though, which infuriated some United supporters who wondered why Van Nistelrooy, who had done a fantastic job with the squad, couldn’t have been given a position of some kind.

According to Sky Sports, Amorim will meet with many United officials, including Fletcher, who served as the team’s technical director before Jason Wilcox took over earlier this year.

Fletcher was retained by United as a part of the first team coaching staff, and he started working with the players under both Erik ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy.

However, Fletcher will miss Amorim’s initial round of games after receiving a three-match suspension for arguing with referees during United’s 2-1 victory over Brentford last month, following Brentford’s goal.

After playing 342 games for the Red Devils during a career that began when he was just 11 years old, the Scot is a legend at United, but some fans have still objected to Fletcher continuing in his position rather than Van Nistelrooy.
