Sir Alex Ferguson admits he retired from Manchester United to spend more time with his grieving wife Cathy

The crowd at Old Trafford when Sir Alex Ferguson revealed he would be leaving after nearly 30 years will live on in the memories of Manchester United supporters.

After his sister passed away, Sir Alex Ferguson acknowledges that he left Manchester United to be with his mourning wife, Cathy, more often.

In 2013, the Scottish manager announced his resignation from Old Trafford following 27 years in charge. Ferguson, 82, won numerous medals, including two Champions Leagues and 13 Premier League championships, to establish the Red Devils as one of the most formidable teams in the world of football.

Thirteen years after he first declared he would leave football, he finally made up his mind a few months later. Ferguson recently said that there were other reasons why he wasn’t playing football, despite the common belief that his age of 71 was the reason.

The Glaswegian reflected on his last few months with the team and shared his thoughts on Rangers and Scotland great Ally McCoist.

He stated: “Cathy’s sister had died in the previous October and she was lost” on McCoist’s podcast, Ally’s Social Club.At Christmas I told her, ‘Look, I’m going to retire at the end of the season.’ She was clearly lost. Her reaction let me know that she was happy to be left alone. She had given me everything, even her life.

Because of my employment, [she was] taking care of me and raising the children. She was thrilled when I told her I was going to retire, and I knew it. Through her body language, I could tell.”

A 13th Premier League winners medal would hang around Ferguson’s neck as he retired. Even though his final team was weaker than past championship-winning iterations, United finished the season 11 points ahead of bitter rivals Manchester City.

“I always said when I got to January – what I did every January 1st, I wrote down every year where our opponents’ games could be won or lost and I put us down to win by 10 points,” Ferguson remarked, reflecting on his final victory.

The squad was performing incredibly well, so I anticipated that we would. However, I believe it was 11 points. They performed admirably, as did the squad, and Van Persie stood out for his goals, aggressiveness, strength, and self-assurance.”

For an additional eleven years, Ferguson would serve as the team’s global ambassador and club director. Nevertheless, he will leave Manchester United at the end of the current campaign.

It is understood that the position was eliminated as a result of United’s cost-cutting initiatives, which have already resulted in the layoff of 250 workers. With their worst league season start since 1989 going into the international break, United is having trouble on the field.
