Dominic Solanke, a striker for Bournemouth, is reportedly set to join Tottenham Hotspur for a club record £65 million.

The previous transfer record for Spurs was £63 million, which they paid Lyon in 2019 to acquire Tanguy Ndombele.

That will soon change, though, as The Athletic reports that Solanke is ready to sign a six-year contract with the Spurs.

Last season, the Englishman had an incredible season with Bournemouth, scoring 19 goals in 38 Premier League games for the Cherries.

The only English players who have scored more goals this season are Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Ollie Watkins; Solanke was unfortunate not to be included for Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad.

But he seems to be playing well enough to be sent to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he will fill a void in Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup.

The Spurs manager disclosed throughout the preseason that he and his group were trying to bring in a center-forward.

Postecoglou stated earlier in the summer that the sort of striker we get is crucial. You are aware of our style of play.

We have particular physical and technical requirements, so we know that the striker will meet those requirements.

“Obviously that’s a focus for us, because when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, that’s still the part of the park where we’re really probably the thinnest.”

There was optimism that Richarlison would fill the striker-shaped void left by Harry Kane from the previous campaign, but the Brazil international’s career didn’t pan out due to a mix of injuries and poor play.

In 28 games, Richarlison scored 11 goals for Spurs, which is a decent output but far short of what is needed to lead the team.

Spurs are anticipated to pursue two more positions this summer, so the summer won’t likely end there.

Tottenham is rumoured to be looking to bolster its left-back and wing positions prior to this month’s deadline.

Postecoglou will be counting on Solanke and any other recent additions to help Spurs advance farther in the Champions League.

Tottenham finished two points behind Aston Villa in fourth place last time around, preventing them from participating in Europe’s top club competition.

They visit newly promoted Leicester City on Monday, kickstarting their quest for a top-four finish.
