According to Viktor Gyokeres, the two players that most influenced him as a child were Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo, both of whom were once members of Manchester United.

After an incredible first season with the Portuguese club, the Sporting Clube de Portugal striker has made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most exciting and sought-after players. During the 2023–24 season, he scored 43 goals in 50 games for the Lions and dished out 15 assists.

He has now scored 25 goals in just 23 appearances across all competitions this season, putting him on pace to eclipse those totals. Consequently, the Swede has drawn interest from teams in the Premier League, including United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

That has only increased rumors of a potential reunion when Ruben Amorim moved to Old Trafford. Fans will be even more excited, though, because Gyokeres disclosed that the two legendary players were the ones he admired as a child.

Gyokeres said UEFA.com, “Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo were the players I looked up to.” “I was amazed by their performance on the field; they went above and beyond.

“I intended to perform comparable actions on the field. Football players nowadays must be physically fit, have a talent for scoring goals, and get along well with their teammates. My physicality, finishing, and the fact that I’m frequently in the correct position to score are my top three attributes.

“You have to take it with a pinch of salt and not take it too seriously,” he continued in response to a question concerning the outside noise. You don’t need to be let down when things go wrong, and you shouldn’t get ahead of yourself when things are going well.

“You simply make an effort to maintain a steady level without giving too much notice. If I had any advice for other forwards, it would be to avoid comparing yourself to other people. You should continue working and concentrating on yourself regardless of whether you are playing for a large club at the same age. If you do things correctly, time flies.
