After Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal at home, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made some remarks following the game, which former Red Devils player Wayne Rooney noticed.

Wayne Rooney, a former striker for Manchester United, believed manager Erik ten Hag had denigrated the current team with his remarks regarding their mindset.

After looking toothless in a 4-0 thumping at Crystal Palace six days prior, United lost 1-0 at home to the Gunners. The game’s lone goal, scored by Leandro Trossard, ended Ten Hag’s team’s chances of qualifying for Europe while maintaining Mikel Arteta’s team in the running for the championship.

Ten Hag cited his team’s progress from the loss at Selhurst Park on Monday night. “It starts always with the right attitude and that is what you have to build during the week and on match day you have to be spot on,” he stated.

The manager emphasized that, unlike in the previous game, his team was still competitive even without a few key players. But Rooney, the all-time record scorer for United, pounced on the Dutchman’s post-match assertion.

Rooney stated on Sky Sports, “I think any manager at Manchester United is under pressure because it’s a huge club.” “There will be serious questions raised when you’re losing games the way they’re currently losing games.

“As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I believe that the players need to take a serious look in the mirror. It is extremely offensive when a manager conducts an interview and remarks about how a player’s attitude makes them unfit to play for Manchester United. I would never just let that go until the end of the season if I saw my manager saying that.

“I feel bad for him because it seems like some players are just trying to finish the season. However, it is ultimately his responsibility to ensure that the players are correct.”

Even though United’s Sunday loss dropped them to eighth place, former captain Roy Keane expressed empathy for manager Ten Hag. “The Irishman stated on Sky Sports that there have been real issues at the club.”

“He has been forthright about the injuries to the back four players. However, as you lose more games and find yourself ranked eighth in the table, you do eventually start to doubt yourself.

“Never would I sit in the studio and wish away a manager’s career. I hope he gets more time so they can regroup, reorganize, and enjoy the summer. I hope he gets the chance to do it correctly.

“The club is experiencing serious issues. To be honest, there were some good things about last year. They’re about to play in the FA Cup final, which will be extremely tough if they defeat Man City. However, he has a lot of obstacles to overcome and is under a lot of pressure.”
