Brendan Rodgers confirms one Celtic transfer that won’t happen

Brendan Rodgers has announced that one Celtic transfer will not take place, despite widespread speculation.

There will always be transfer whispers surrounding clubs such as Celtic. This summer has not been any different. However, activity has not kept up with expectations, particularly in terms of incomings. We’d known for months that Kieran Tierney had signed a pre-contract and would return to Parkhead. Aside from that, the only other major arrival has been Benjamin Nygren, and even that was a cheap transfer.

However, there has been a significant increase in outgoings. Last season’s dependable starters, Nicolas Kuhn and Greg Taylor, have left. Other notable departures include Luis Palma, Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke, and a few others.

Another player has been linked with a move elsewhere for several months. That is none other than Daizen Maeda.

It appeared that such rumors had died down over time, but this week, curiosity over Maeda’s future resurfaced. Brendan Rodgers has made it abundantly clear that he is not going anywhere.

Brendan Rodgers confirms a Celtic transfer that will not materialize.
According to The Herald, Rodgers was asked how sure he is in retaining Maeda with the club, and the Northern Irish manager responded:

“I’m fairly confident of that, yeah, as can be.”
Celtic cannot even consider parting ways with Maeda right now, whatever of the offer, if one is made at any moment. The roster already appears to be weaker than previous season, and the Japanese forward is undoubtedly the most essential player.

However, staying at Celtic makes sense for Maeda as well. He would have observed what happened to Kyogo in Rennes. Can he afford something comparable in a World Cup year? We do not think so.
