Caitlin Clark asks Phillies to hire her after viral broadcaster impression
After a very successful rookie season, it seems quite clear that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is going to have a lengthy and successful career in the WNBA. But if for some unforeseen reason her basketball career doesn’t work out, Clark may have a backup plan in mind as a broadcaster.
Clark and her teammate Lexie Hull were seemingly watching Wednesday’s matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers. And in the bottom of the fourth inning, Clark tried her hand doing play-by-play of the game in a video posted on TikTok by Hull.
“And the ball is hit to the shortstop, (Johan) Rojas throws over to first base and that’s not gonna be an out,” said Clark on her “call” of the game shared by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic on X. “That’s an infield single by (William) Contreras.”
“We’re in the bottom of the fourth, we’ve got a score of 1-0 to the Phillies. Runner on first, no outs. This brings someone to the plate. Here comes the 0-1 pitch, a little outside. (Aaron) Nola on the mound in his Sketchers, red Sketchers he’s wearing. Swings, a chopper right down the first-base line. (Bryce) Harper fields it and that’s an out, one out.
“And a swing and a miss for a second strikeout of the inning. Nola gets out of it after the lead runner gets on. Might have been the second batter, not sure. And that brings us to the top of the fifth with the Phillies leading 1-0. We’ll be back in a minute. Thanks for tuning in.”
This was clearly more of a joke from Clark than any sort of serious plea to do MLB play-by-play broadcasting anytime soon. But regardless, she did comment on Hull’s TikTok video and ask the Phillies to hire her.
Baseball may not quite be in Clark’s wheelhouse. But it at least shows that she may have an interest in broadcasting. So maybe we will one day see her in a broadcasting role covering a sport that she is far more familiar with, such as the NBA or WNBA.
