Brendan Rodgers was clearly dissatisfied with his Celtic group heading into the UEFA Champions League qualifying play-off. And the result was an uninspired 0-0 draw at home against Kairat Almaty. For the visitors, this was as good as a win because the Hoops now had to travel to Kazakhstan to earn a result.

We are all aware of Celtic’s track record in away European games. Also, one must remember how many years they failed to qualify for the Champions League before securing a position three seasons in a row as Scottish champions.

Overall, it feels like a movie we’ve seen before. On repeat more times than anyone wanted. And there is a sense of inevitability surrounding this second leg against Kairat Almaty, who must now be regarded favourites to advance.

Celtic, if they are to have any chance of winning, will need to make some changes in the second leg. Also, two players must be dropped.

Celtic must drop two players in the second leg versus Kairat.
The first name is unlikely to surprise anyone. This is Adam Idah. We believe that the Irishman can add to this team. Last season, he scored 20 goals. However, things are not going well for him right now.

Many strikers rely heavily on confidence. And Idah doesn’t appear to have any right now. Starting him in every game, and failing to score, will not help. He needs some time away from the starting lineup.

The second name is James Forrest. Definitely a club legend. But at this stage of his career, he should not be starting Champions League games. Yang Hyun-jun has a lot of criticism, and for good reason, yet when he came on, it felt like he could do something.
