Chances of Rangers manager Danny Rohl invading Sheffield Wednesday in January are revealed.

Danny Rohl, the new Rangers manager, is allegedly unlikely to return to Sheffield Wednesday to sign any of his former players during the January transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Rohl has no plans to attack his former club Wednesday in January, especially given the Owls’ current roster of young players and their financial crisis with recently departed owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Rohl kept Wednesday in the Championship before leading them to a 12th-place finish in his two years in command at Hillsborough, but following months of speculation about his future, he controversially left the club by mutual consent in July, just over a week before the new season began.

Despite initially withdrawing from the race to replace Russell Martin, Rohl took over as Rangers manager earlier this month, and after losing 3-0 to Norwegian club Brann in the Europa League in his first game, the 36-year-old has led his side to back-to-back Scottish Premiership victories over Kilmarnock and Hibernian.

However, the Gers are still 11 points behind league leaders Hearts, and they are also bottom of the Europa League standings, so Rohl may want to join the transfer market in January to improve his team in an attempt to turn around what has been a tumultuous season for the Scottish club.

Rangers manager Danny Rohl’s view on raiding Sheffield Wednesday in January:

While the deal was completed prior to Rohl’s arrival, Rangers has already signed one Wednesday player in recent months, with winger Djeidi Gassama moving to Ibrox for £2.2 million in July, and they also bid just over £1 million for highly rated Owls goalkeeper Pierce Charles in the summer.

With Rohl now in charge of Rangers, Wednesday may have been concerned that he would return for Charles or one of their other players in January, but Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke believes the German will not attempt to target his former club during the winter window.

“Yeah, that’s an opportunity for a lot of clubs if they want to sign any players from Sheffield Wednesday with the ongoing financial issues,” O’Rourke told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

“Also, the Sheffield Wednesday squad is rather threadbare. So it might narrow down the alternatives for anyone Danny Rohl is interested in.

“So I don’t think it’s a priority for him right now to go back and possibly sign any Sheffield Wednesday players.

“The key priority for Sheffield Wednesday is to find new owners, and ideally they will be able to invest in and strengthen the squad.

“But, yeah, I think the squad is obviously very stretched at the minute on Wednesday, and there are a lot of young players in that squad who have had to play because the squad is so thin.”

“So Danny Rohl will be looking elsewhere if he is to strengthen that Rangers squad in January.”

Sheffield Wednesday will feel Pierce Charles’ relief after Danny Rohl, Rangers reveal.

Rangers’ season has been a nightmare so far, but after a promising start under Rohl, they may believe they can still salvage it, and he is sure to receive some support in the January transfer window.

Many of Wednesday’s players departed the club in the summer, so there aren’t many sellable assets left at Hillsborough. However, knowing that Rohl is a great fan of Charles, the Owls may have been concerned that the Gers would revive their interest in the outstanding shot-stopper when the market opened.

Wednesday is now in administration, so it may have been difficult for them to reject down any Rangers proposal for Charles, but they will be relieved that Rohl does not want to return for any of his former players as things are.
