Chelsea smashed their own Champions League record in the first half of their encounter against Ajax, and then did it again before halftime.

The Blues led 4-1 at halftime against Ajax, who were at the bottom of the league table before the match at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutch visitors endured a dreadful 45 minutes, with midfielder Kenneth Taylor sent off for major foul play in the 15th minute.

Marc Guiu then put Chelsea ahead, and Moises Caicedo’s strike on 28 minutes put them in complete control.

Former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst equalized for Ajax from the penalty spot, but Enzo Fernandez and Estevao also converted from the spot for Enzo Maresca’s side, making the score 4-1.

During the action-packed first half, Chelsea broke their own European record.

Guiu, aged 19 years, nine months, and 18 days old, became Chelsea’s youngest Champions League goal scorer in club history.

However, Estevao’s goal 33 minutes later made him the new record holder at the age of 18 years, five months, and 28 days.

Tyrique George then put Chelsea up 5-1 after the break and, ironically, would have become the record striker at 19 years, eight months, and 18 days if Guiu and Estevao had not scored.

It is the first time three adolescents have scored in a European match for Chelsea, highlighting Maresca’s belief in young players during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Josh Acheampong, 19, made his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and scored in the 3-0 victory.

After the game, Maresca commented, “I’m very happy for Josh that he scored his first goal for the club.” He’s a talented player, but he must continue to work hard. He will undoubtedly play a vital role for this club.

“I’ve expressed several times that I really like Josh. We were confident in him last season. He is doing fine. It’s also critical that when Levi [Colwill] or Tosin are out, the other players be prepared.

“He definitely needs to improve. It is our responsibility as coaches and managers to help the players progress. If we improve the players, we improve the entire team.”
