Chelsea defender agrees loan move to Sheffield United

It has been claimed that Alfie Gilchrist has consented to join Sheffield United on loan status.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a top transfer specialist and columnist for CaughtOffside, the 20-year-old player will be joining Chris Wilder’s Blades in the Championship for the upcoming season. Romano made this claim from his position as a columnist for CaughtOffside.

The young defender was elevated to the senior first-team of the Blues at the close of the previous year. He made his debut in a competitive game on December 27, when the Blues defeated Crystal Palace by a score of 2-1 in the Premier League.

After graduating from the academy, the player went on to make a total of sixteen further appearances for the club. It was during the team’s win over Everton at the close of the previous season that he scored his very first goal for the club.

It is quite improbable that Gilchrist will be able to continue his growth while playing a squad role behind players such as Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, and Tosin Adarabioyo, who was signed during the summer. Therefore, Gilchrist must now utilise his significant standing with Sheffield United as a platform to demonstrate to Enzo Maresca what are his capabilities.

Friday, August 9th will mark the beginning of the Blades’ Championship campaign, which will begin with a match away from home against Preston North End.
