The Chelsea Football Club made a brilliant business decision in signing Thiago Silva. Although the experienced defender was only 35 years old when Chelsea signed him from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, he was exactly the experienced addition the team needed at the back.

In 2020, the Brazilian signed a one-year contract, but he later accepted extensions that kept him at Stamford Bridge until this summer, when, at the age of 39, he finally said goodbye to the Blues.

Silva played in the Premier League for four years in west London, making 113 appearances and scoring eight goals, or an average of 28.25 games per season. Not bad for a seasoned defender.

Under five different managers, he was a pillar of the squad, demonstrating his professionalism and star potential. Although Chelsea will miss his impact on the team, is it possible that they would try to sign the next Thiago Silva during the summer transfer window?

Mats Hummels, who spent 13 years at Borussia Dortmund across two stints, has announced that he will leave the team this summer on a free transfer.

Hummels sent the following statement to the Dortmund supporters: “Dear fans, after more than 13 years, my time in black and yellow is now coming to an end. Being a part of the journey from 13th position in January 2008 to playing for BVB for such a long time has been an immense honour and pleasure for me.

“It has been an honour to meet so many outstanding coaches and players here. I’m crossing my fingers that you can all get together at Borsigplatz again soon to celebrate. You will be missed.

Similar to Silva, who was 35 years old when he joined Chelsea, is Hummels. Additionally, like Silva, he is available on a free transfer. Despite his lack of Premier League experience, he might still believe that he has something more to offer and be a great asset to the Blues, giving a youthful Chelsea club valuable experience.

Tosin Adarabioyo was already signed by Chelsea this summer, and the team may add Hummels to further bolster the defence, especially if Trevoh Chalobah decides to depart.
