Pedro Neto is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at Chelsea following Wolves’ acceptance of an offer valued at £51.4 million, inclusive of bonuses, according to information obtained by talkSPORT.

The Portuguese national team player, Neto, has already reached an agreement about the terms of his contract with Chelsea Football Club.

Tottenham made a proposal to compete with Chelsea for the 24-year-old forward, who has been a target for Tottenham for a long time. However, Chelsea has successfully secured his signing before Tottenham could.

It is reported that Spurs made a bid to acquire Neto by including Oliver Skipp in the deal, along with a sum of money. However, Wolves rejected the offer.

Chelsea also submitted a player-plus-cash proposal, which involved both Trevoh Chalobah and David Datro Fofana, but Wolves rejected it as well.

On Friday, the Blues made a straightforward cash offer for Neto, which was subsequently accepted.

He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Saturday in order to finalise the transfer.

Last season, the Portuguese star made 20 appearances in the Premier League, but was sidelined at different times owing to two distinct ailments.

He achieved a total of two goals and nine assists, which caught the attention of Arsenal and Tottenham.

Neto is currently under contract with Wolves until the conclusion of the 2027 season. He signed a new agreement in 2022.

Neto transferred to Wolves in 2019 from Braga for a fee of about £18 million. As part of the deal, Neto is expected to earn a salary that is almost three times more than the transfer fee.

Since his arrival, he has accumulated a total of 135 appearances and has managed to score 14 goals.

He is set to be the ninth player to join Chelsea this summer under the management of Enzo Maresca.

The team is currently negotiating a contract to acquire the services of striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid. Additionally, there have been notable departures, as Conor Gallagher is expected to transfer to Atletico for about £35m.

Maresca, who was recruited from Leicester this summer, criticised the profit and sustainability [PSR] regulations that compelled the club to offload academy graduates.

He expressed his belief that the club’s objective is not to sell players from the academy, but rather it is a requirement dictated by the regulations.

“This issue affects not only our club, but also all the other clubs in the Premier League.” It is regrettable that in Italy, we have Totti who has spent 20 years with Roma, being loyal to the same team. The concept of a “one-club-man” is highly valued in football, as it is much appreciated by supporters. However, due to the current regulations, the situation has changed compared to previous times.

“Chelsea is not the only club investing in player acquisitions.” Major teams are actively seeking to acquire players.

“Certain clubs allocate a higher amount of funds, while others allocate a lower amount.” In my view, it is regrettable that we do not often witness the loyalty of a player who remains with a single club throughout their career, but the regulations governing the sport have evolved.

Chelsea start their Premier League campaign against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18th.
