Chelsea willing to take huge price cut on Romelu Lukaku who is desperate for reunion with former manager at new club

Romelu Lukaku is looking to return to Italy, and Chelsea is willing to sell him this summer for a low price, according to talkSPORT.

The Belgian striker has spent the last two seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma, but is now ready to take a major pay cut to join former manager Antonio Conte at his new club, Napoli.

This suggests that Lukaku will probably finalise his permanent departure from Chelsea this summer, following a mega-money return to Stamford Bridge that swiftly became a nightmare agreement for both the team and the player.

In the summer of 2021, Chelsea paid £97.5 million to re-sign their former striker from Inter Milan, after he helped the Serie A team win its first league title under manager Antonio Conte in ten years.

After three years, Chelsea is prepared to lose a significant amount of money on the 31-year-old and is open to taking a lowball offer of about £29 million.

Lukaku is eager to stay in Italy and work with former manager Conte once more, therefore Napoli and the Premier League team are now in negotiations over the deal.

Lukaku is expected to take Victor Osimhen’s spot, who was expected to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer when Kylian Mbappe left for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

For the past four seasons, Osimhem has distinguished himself as Napoli’s line-leader. In 2022–2023, he scored 31 goals to lead Napoli to the Serie A championship.

Although Lukaku’s hiring to replace him may not have thrilled supporters, it seems they have enough faith in Conte to support the arrangement.

According to Italian football analyst Daniele Fisichella, who spoke with talkSPORT, fans of Napoli are amenable to Lukaku joining the team as Conte helps the side bounce back from a challenging previous season that saw them finish tenth in the table a year after their champions glory.

“I think the supporters of Napoli have faith in Antonio Conte and think he can lead them to at least fourth place,” he remarked.

“And I think the Napoli supporters will be just pleased to acquire a Belgian, because Conte adores Lukaku so much and has had him at Inter for two seasons previously.
