In the summer transfer window, Manchester United has not yet strengthened their midfield, and once again, Frenkie de Jong’s name is in the spotlight.

Erik ten Hag, who handled the midfielder at Ajax before he moved for Barca, has been a dream of the £86 million Dutch international.

Man Utd was able to reach an agreement to sign the Oranje star from the Catalan giants for 80 million euros two years ago; nevertheless, the player chose to remain at the Nou Camp.

Now, Ten Hag has reportedly proposed a swap deal involving Antony to sign Frenkie De Jong for Manchester United, according to Spanish source Nacional.

Under the Netherlands manager at Ajax, the Brazilian international was a hit, but in the Premier League, he has been a complete bust.

After leaving the Eredivisie team for United in a move worth £86 million, Antony scored just once in 29 league games during the previous season.

Therefore, it comes as a great surprise that Ten Hag made what is likely the largest flop in the team in order to get De Jong, one of the most crucial players for Barca.

The fact that the Blaugrana are reportedly not interested in Antony—they do want to sign a winger, but the South American does not suit the mold—is not shocking.

To be fair, Barca already has Raphinha as a backup and Lamine Yamal on the right flank, both of whom are far superior to the winger at Old Trafford.

Man Utd should therefore attempt a different approach in order to have any chance of landing De Jong.
