According to talkSPORT, David de Gea has resumed his football career after reaching an agreement to join Fiorentina.

The ex-Manchester United custodian has agreed to a one-year contract with the possibility of extending it for an additional season with the Serie A team.

De Gea has joined Fiorentina without any transfer fee.

It is anticipated that he will have seen a substantial reduction in salary upon joining the Italian club, in contrast to the amount he earned during his extensive tenure in the Premier League.

The individual, who is 33 years old, was said to have a weekly salary of £375,000 while at Old Trafford.

The veteran custodian was released from Old Trafford in the summer of 2023 upon the conclusion of his contract, which happened to align with his marriage to Edurne Garcia.

Subsequent to unsuccessful negotiations between him and Manchester United, his 12-year tenure with the club came to a close.

Although there were rumours connecting De Gea to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, he remained without a club for the whole 2023/24 season.

In 2011, he was first recruited by the renowned manager Sir Alex Ferguson from Atletico Madrid to play for Manchester United. Over time, he was elevated to the position of the club’s primary player.

De Gea made a total of 545 games for Manchester United, achieving success by winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups throughout his time at the club.

Andre Onana, who formerly played for Inter Milan before joining Manchester last summer, has now assumed the position of custodian.

A few weeks ago, De Gea tweeted an hourglass emoji on his X account, suggesting the possibility of his imminent return to sport.

He has released several instructional videos following his absence from a certain activity.

This includes his affiliation with Altrincham, a National League team located in the north-west region of England, near his place of residence.

De Gea’s most recent competitive outing occurred more than 400 days ago with the Red Devils’ loss to Manchester City in the 2023 FA Cup final.

Fiorentina achieved an eighth-place position in the Italian top division last season, and also secured the position of runners-up in the Europa Conference League for the second consecutive year.
