Done Deal: Manchester United reached verbal agreement with Europe’s most dangerous attacker, player will join in January

The clock is ticking down to Ruben Amorim’s first match in command of Manchester United, and the first indications of the new manager’s early effect on the Red Devils’ team.

Ipswich Town awaits the 39-year-old coach, who has already completed his first training session and is waiting for the rest of his international stars to return to Carrington. Amorim will have little time to make his decisions before the trip to Portman Road on Sunday.

Talks have already begun about the club’s transfer ambitions with Amorim at the helm, however it looks that excessive spending will not continue. The new head coach will be responsible for getting the most out of his present group.

That hasn’t stopped conjecture, of course. Mirror Football examines some of the most recent stories regarding United.

Gentleman’s Agreement

Manchester United are thought to have reached an agreement with Sporting CP to prevent Ruben Amorim from signing any of his former players when the January transfer market opens. The former Portugal midfielder has been settling into his new squad and has already been connected with bringing Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford.

However, it looks that such a move will not be completed soon, since all parties reached a gentleman’s agreement. Transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano feels United may make several deals in the summer.

“In the discussions between Sporting and Man United when they agreed on Amorim’s exit in November, there was also a gentleman’s agreement for United not to bring in any Sporting player in January,” Romano recalled.

“This is because Sporting hopes to win the title this season and does not want to lose any other members of the squad in January, following the shock of Ruben Amorim’s departure in the middle of the season.” My anticipation is that Manchester United would look at Sporting players in the summer, assuming Amorim approves; not in January.”

Leroy Sane Contract Update

Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane has dismissed speculation that he may return to the Premier League after being linked with Manchester United and Arsenal. The Germany international’s contract expires in the summer, but he has disclosed that he is in negotiations to prolong his stay.

“We are in talks,” he stated. “I feel at ease in Munich. I’m quite comfy. The talks are pretty nice. My emphasis is presently only on Bayern.”

“I follow Premier League football but the attraction for me lies in the club where I can show my best performance, develop and win titles,” explained the player. “I have that at Bayern.”
