Late Thursday night, the future of Duke’s basketball program got slightly worse.

The Blue Devils learned that 5-star forward Shelton Henderson will be pursuing a different opportunity.

The school and Henderson mutually parted ways at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, per 247’s report.

Henderson committed to play for Jon Scheyer in early November.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound tank of a star athlete will be looking for a different institution instead.

Henderson is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 recruit in Texas and as the No. 4 shooting guard nationally. His overall ranking by that service is No. 21 in the country.

Henderson’s early commitment to Duke allowed him to grow slightly in his Blue Devils fandom, but in the end, that wasn’t enough to keep him around.

This, of course, is far from the biggest news Duke is hoping to hear about this week. Cooper Flagg might make his NBA Draft decision.

If Flagg leaves as expected, it’ll just add injury to insult if Henderson ever gets to play against Duke, too.

For Thursday night into Friday, though, all that was clear was that Henderson wasn’t ready to commit and likely won’t be back out somewhere for another few minutes.
