Edu provides an explanation as to why he and Arteta parted ways with the Arsenal team, which included Mesut Ozil, of course.

We have been discussing the unquestionable “phases” that Mikel Arteta has been discussing since the beginning of his second season at Arsenal. Of course, all Arsenal fans are aware that it was not long after Edu Gaspar joined Arsenal as the “technical Director” (during the time that Unai Emery was the coach) that Emery was fired a year later. It appeared that Edu had come to the conclusion that the club was in a state of turmoil and that things had gone drastically wrong since Arsene Wenger had left the club.

It would appear that Edu and Arteta had been having private conversations about how they needed to devise a strategy to bring Arsenal back to the very top once more. These conversations reached a climax when it became necessary to find a replacement for Emery. After that, the conversations with Arteta became the focal point of the long-term decisions that were required to make those desires a reality.

Edu has now disclosed, for the very first time, in an interview with MenInBlazers, how he and Arteta came up with these long-term plans, as well as the reason why the first thing on the agenda was to get rid of the high-earning but underperforming stars who were not a very good example to the few young stars that we still had on the books.According to what he said, “There are times when you have to make decisions that are not popular and popular.” In order to be successful, you need to have a strong conviction in your views, what you think, what is beneficial for the club, what is beneficial for the club’s future, and everything else.

Therefore, there are certain aspects of football that I will always pay a great deal of attention to, and I will always be a part of them. I always started to see the squad when I enjoyed it, or when I saw the squads, I started to see the balance of the squad, the positions, the age, and the group that we have, but there are three aspects that, in my opinion, you need to be particularly mindful of.

“First and foremost, we need to look at the age of the player. Next, you need to look at the player’s wage. Finally, you need to look at the player’s performance. All of these things are relevant to the player. You are in need of attention if you have a child that is over the age of 26 or 27.

In the event that his wage is big, you require care, and if he is not performing, you are doomed to die. Let’s consider the following scenario: you have a player who is 27 or 28 years old, he has a large wage, but he is playing well. You can accept him.

“What you cannot accept is that if you have those three elements and one of them went above 28, you start to feel uneasy. It is preferable for you to move on since it is possible that this player is blocking someone younger as an asset to aid you. As a result, when I first started working at Arsenal, I was able to observe all of the squads with the utmost respect. Almost everyone was between the ages of 26 and 27, and they were not playing well.

There is not a single club in the entire globe that would be interested in coming here and purchasing one of our players if you had these three components. When you are in a position where you have control over a situation, you need to be able to handle it with strength, and there are moments when you have to make choices.

Therefore, either you go strong and try to make those judgements to let those players go, or your project is going to take seven, eight, or nine years to complete instead of three or four years. Then, decisions that are not well received begin to be made because the majority of the players are watching, they have those components occasionally in the club, they have a fan base, and they have the media that loves the players, but it is not healthy for the club to keep those players in that condition.

They very quickly began dismantling the older age players, such as Sokratis, Kolasinac, Lacazette, and David Luiz, and of course, the one with the highest wage was the famous ‘Shirt Seller’ Mesut Ozil, who seemed to be quite content doing what he wanted while quietly building up his bank account without worrying about the fortunes of the club he was supposed to be working for. We now know that they went for the quick fix to start their ‘phases’, and as Edu mentioned, they went for the three

When taking into account the current situation at Arsenal, it would appear that their ambitions are beginning to materialise. Whether or not you believe that the manner in which they proceeded was thought to be brutal is something that I will leave up to you to decide.
