Erik ten Hag is considering a potential transfer move for Toney following an injury to one of the team’s key players.

As reported by The Telegraph, Manchester United may acquire a new forward during the ongoing transfer window due to the injury suffered by Rasmus Hojlund.

The Red Devils recently experienced a dual injury setback against Arsenal. Leny Yoro sustained a foot injury and is projected to be inactive for a duration of 3 months. Additionally, Hojlund is expected to be out of action for a duration of 6 weeks due to a hamstring injury.

This may compel Manchester United to engage in the transfer market in search of potential substitutes. According to The Telegraph, manager Erik ten Hag is seeking an additional attacker following Hojlund’s injury, and Brentford’s Ivan Toney is being considered as a potential alternative for the team.

Potential agreement
The loss to Hojlund is a significant setback for the Red Devils, particularly given that Joshua Zirkzee has just recently commenced training following his transfer from Bologna. The 23-year-old player will require a period of adjustment to cope with the high level of competition in the Premier League, and this is a matter of concern for ten Hag.

Toney would be an ideal candidate to spearhead the offensive in Hojlund’s absence. Manager Thomas Frank has labelled the Englishman as a ‘great’ player. However, his performance in the second part of last season was inconsistent after he returned from an 8-month ban.

Nevertheless, he is an immensely superior striker. Toney scored 21 goals during the 2022/23 season and would be a good addition to the Manchester United team. The 28-year-old possesses formidable physical strength and excels in the art of holding up play in the forward position, a preference of ten Hag.

It has been stated that Toney is interested in joining United and may potentially be available for a fee of approximately £40 million this summer. Therefore, the use of personal phrases should not pose an issue. However, the main uncertainty lies in whether Brentford would approve his transfer.

While Toney is in the last year of his contract, the Bees are confronted with a challenging predicament due to their record signing, Igor Thiago, being sidelined until late 2024 following a meniscus surgery. This may prompt them to retain Toney until January before considering his departure.
