Benjamin Siegrist has disclosed that Brendan Rodgers told him he was not part of Celtic’s plans.

The goalkeeper joined the Parkhead club in the summer of 2022, under Ange Postecoglou.

A year later, the Australian moved to Tottenham Hotspur, while Rodgers returned to lead Glasgow’s east end.

He gave Siegrist a chance in pre-season, starting the Swiss goalkeeper against Athletic Club in a friendly match.

Celtic youth updates: B team goals, loan news, and an injury setback.

Celtic’s Champions League play-off opponents are confirmed following the third qualifying round.

“I did okay, I didn’t do great, I didn’t do bad, I did okay,” stated the keeper on The Bondi Podcast.

“Then I just wanted to speak with the manager and ask, ‘Hey, what are you thinking?'”

“And he went, ‘Yeah, you’re not really for me.'” He simply stated, ‘You’ve not been able to adapt to the system well enough to play.

“And I said, ‘Fair enough, I understand, I feel it’.”

Siegrist remained at Celtic for another season, despite Rodgers’ unambiguous message.

He eventually made two competitive appearances for the club before signing a permanent contract with FC Rapid in Romania under Neil Lennon last summer.

Siegrist, who is now on loan at Genoa from Rapid, played twice in Serie A last season.
