Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday warned of more “bad news” as Dejphon Chansiri, Hillsborough update drops, according to Sky Sports pundit

Pundit Lee Hendrie feels it would be terrible news for Sheffield Wednesday if Hillsborough’s owner, Dejphon Chansiri, retained control of the club after selling it.

Wednesday has had a dreadful time under Chansiri’s ownership, and after failing to pay players’ and staff salaries on time in five of the last seven months, they are barred from paying transfer fees for the next three windows, as well as being subject to five distinct transfer embargoes.

In the most frightening off-field development at Hillsborough, the Daily Mail reported this week that the Owls are just days away from being served with a winding-up petition, with their unpaid tax liability to HMRC estimated to be approximately £750,000.

If Chansiri is unable to settle that debt, he may have no choice but to put the Owls into administration, a decision he alone can make as the club’s sole director, but with a number of parties still interested in purchasing the club, supporters are hopeful that scenario can be avoided.

Former Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor confirmed earlier this month that he is still interested in completing a takeover of the club, while ex-Newcastle United chief Mike Ashley and businessman David Richards are also said to be monitoring the situation, but Chansiri is not believed to be open to a full sale at this time and is instead looking for new investment.

Even if Chansiri agrees to a sale or puts the club into administration, journalist Alan Nixon claims that he intends to keep Hillsborough, which he owns separately from the club, meaning that any new Wednesday owner would have to pay rent to continue playing at their iconic stadium or consider relocating elsewhere.

Lee Hendrie responds to the worrying Dejphon Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday update.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Hendrie revealed that he understands Chansiri’s desire to remain at Hillsborough in order to recuperate some of his investment, but he claimed that his continuing involvement with the club would be detrimental to Wednesday.

“I think the sooner Chansiri is away from Sheffield Wednesday, the better,” Hendrie told the crowd.

“I believe it would be horrible news if he had any link to the club, whether it was through the stadium or the club itself.

“I believe that keeping Hillsborough would be bad news, given how things have turned out.

“There just appears to be a negative feeling about what he’s done and how he’s gone about his business.

“I completely understand his desire to recover as much money as possible for the club, but it does not appear that this will be the case.

“It appears like he wants to hold on to something, possibly in order to recoup some of his investment if the team is to be successful.

“But I think the sooner he is away from the club, the better.”

Dejphon Chansiri, Hillsborough news will keep rising. Sheffield Wednesday’s rage

Wednesday supporters are planning a boycott of the game against Middlesbrough at Hillsborough on Wednesday night as they step up their efforts to force Chansiri to sell, and more action is expected in the coming weeks as the club’s off-field crisis worsens, particularly in light of the most recent stadium update.

With many Owls fans questioning whether Chansiri is actually eager to sell the club, some are beginning to consider administration as a positive outcome because it would put an end to his horror reign, even if it would result in a crippling 12-point deduction.

However, because Chansiri owns Hillsborough separately, it appears that he will be able to retain control of the stadium even if Wednesday goes bankrupt, which means he may remain connected to the club for some time, unless a new owner is willing to pay a significant sum to take it off his hands.
