During the most recent Premier League season, Manchester United frequently let goals slip through, and so far, nothing appears to have changed.

The Red Devils were defeated 3-0 by Liverpool yesterday after losing 2-1 to Arsenal a few days ago during their preseason tour of the United States.

Leny Yoro was acquired by United by paying a hefty price to beat out major European teams, but the adolescent will now need to spend a significant amount of time recovering.

As a result, Man United needs to spend big money to bolster the centre defence and has been connected to Mathijs de Ligt.

De Ligt and Manchester United have reportedly verbally agreed to a £200,000-per-week contract, according to a story exclusively reported by GMS.

To finalise the signing from Bayern Munich, the Old Trafford club is still unwilling to pay the requested sum of £45 million plus bonuses.

According to The Telegraph, Man United and De Ligt have already finalised the details of a five-year contract, and the Bavarians have rejected a proposal for the Dutchman.

The 24-year-old celebrity has so signed a deal that will pay him £52 million over the course of the next five years, or £200,000 a week.

With three years remaining on his deal, the Netherlands international is currently earning £263,000 a week with the German Bundesliga team.

De Ligt’s willingness to accept a pay decrease in order to join Manchester United is therefore unexpected.

In the 2024–25 season, will he be eligible to play for fellow countryman Erik ten Hag? Time will tell.
