“He wasn’t treated fair…He deserves better”: Peter Schmeichel feels ‘really, really sorry’ for one Manchester United man

Even though Ineos’s Manchester United honeymoon is coming to an end, it’s time to get things done.
The more impatient Manchester United supporters are a little worried, even though there are undoubtedly many mitigating factors—the Red Devils must sell before they can purchase.

However, it could be argued that the entire Erik ten Hag story left more questions than it did answers.

There are others who contend that Ineos had a duty to approach matters in the manner they did, in addition to being correct in doing so. Not to be forgotten, Man United placed seventh in the Premier League last season—a record low.

The team was eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages, finished with a goal differential of minus one, and gave up their dominance over the EFL Cup with a whimper.

Ten Hag was also hired well in advance of the time that Ineos really reached an agreement with the Glazers. With discussions apparently held with the likes of Roberto de Zerbi, Roberto Martinez, Marco Silva, and Mauricio Pochettino, it only made logical that a fresh group of decision makers wanted to weigh all of their choices.

Erik ten Hag is now employed with Manchester United.
Even yet, the renowned former custodian Peter Schmeichel still harbours qualms about the way Ten Hag was treated while awaiting word on his future at Old Trafford. A well publicised scenario that did little to imply that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company fully trust the Dutchman.

“As for my astonishment at Ten Hag staying, I have none. Schmeichel tells talkSPORT, “I’m surprised at how long it took to reach that conclusion” (20 June, 11.20am).

“I feel a little bad for Erik because all of that was necessary for him to experience after winning the FA Cup. It took him three weeks to find out that they were talking to other individuals. That didn’t seem right to me.

However, that is the method they have selected. He remains. There is undoubtedly a project there, and he has made it very apparent that he intends to see it through to completion. Though it has halted somewhat in its tracks due to injuries, he believes it is headed in the right path.

“I simply don’t think that was the best course of action.”

The present agreement with Ten Hag expires in 2025. In an attempt to offer some sort of security, it is anticipated that the manager who became the first at United to win trophies in consecutive seasons after Sir Alex Ferguson will be extended a new contract.

But according to Ten Hag, it’s not nearly as easy as just signing on the closest dotted line.

In the Ineos era, United has to get better.
There is still the belief that Ineos and Ten Hag are just a convenient couple, with Ineos having flirted with Thomas Tuchel and other players before deciding on the guy in the dugout right now. Was that because there weren’t any good alternatives?

Or does Ineos truly believe that Ten Hag can lead United to success not only in the upcoming season but also in the foreseeable future?

“If I were a member of the team, I would feel as though my manager has been undercut. Will I still respect him as much? Will I believe that his employment is secure for him? When the guy they truly want becomes available, that is the question (that will come up),” Schmeichel muses.

“I don’t think Manchester United needs all this uncertainty at this specific moment.” To be really honest, I am incredibly sorry for him.
