City of Manchester Picked the starting eleven to play Man City; current team news and medical updates for the Community Shield
Just before Manchester United plays Manchester City in the Community Shield, Erik ten Hag’s defence is likely to get a few injury boosts.

The result of the first game of the season rarely predicts long-term success, but at Wembley on Saturday, a prize and the right to brag about the Manchester derby are on the line. Man United already know that Leny Yoro won’t be able to play because he needs surgery on his foot.

Yesterday, Jonny Evans had to be taken off because he was sick, and Harry Maguire missed the friendly loss to Liverpool as a safety measure and is still questionable. Victor Lindelof, Will Fish, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were also taken out of the game after getting more bad reviews.

Thank goodness, Ten Hag got some help on Monday when Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Facundo Pellistri, and Lisandro Martinez returned from long breaks after playing in Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Shaw’s will be looked at, but Martinez is expected to play.

Harry Maguire missed the Liverpool game as a safety measure, but Ten Hag said on Thursday that he is still not sure if he will be able to play on Saturday.

“So we have training, and we need to check to see if he’s fit enough to be available.” Victor Lindelof played, but he’s still a question mark. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are also question marks, and we’ll have to decide what to do with them tomorrow.

Rasmus Hojlund will not be playing because he hurt his knee, so new No. 11 Joshua Zirkzee could start right away. During the preseason, Jadon Sancho was tried out as a centre forward, but it didn’t work out very well.

Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, and Diogo Dalot have only been working since last week, but they are expected to play.

Thoughts: Man United’s starting eleven is: Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford; Zirkzee.

Yoro and Hojlund are hurt.

Not sure about Lindelof, Maguire, Evans, Wan-Bissaka, and Fish.
