Per Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal has entered the hunt to sign one of the top scorers in Serie A.

The Gunners are currently concentrating on signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad after announcing the arrival of defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

It is also possible to pursue a superstar center-forward; Corriere (page 10) reports that the team has made the decision to “break in” and compete for Victor Osimhen of Napoli.

Weeks of negotiations have been spent between Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli, but the 2022–23 Serie A winners have rejected their £76 million bid.

Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea have reportedly been in talks for a part-exchange move, but the 25-year-old is reportedly not interested in joining the Blues.

Arsenal, who have been admiring him for a long time, are in a stronger position to buy him, according to Corriere.

Arsenal ought to refrain from overpaying for Osimhen.
Osimhen has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in world football, but given his history of injuries, clubs appear hesitant to invest a significant amount of money in him.

The Nigerian player’s numerous injuries kept him out of 15 club and national team appearances last season. He has missed 67 games overall since moving from Lille to Napoli in 2020.

For teams that are interested, this is a red flag. Due to Gabriel Jesus’ injury struggles, Arsenal has had a difficult time, therefore they should proceed with caution before spending a fortune on Osimhen.

Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis would prefer a fee more in line with the £110 million release clause that was included to Osimhen’s contract last year. Napoli is aiming for more than £84 million.

We believe that Osimhen, who was referred to as “world-class” by Jose Mourinho in December 2023 while he managed Roma, is not worth more than Arsenal is willing to pay.

Osimhen led Napoli to 17 goals in the previous season, but the Gunners need a more dependable striker up top if they want to contend for the league championship. Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon would be a better fit.

In his rookie season, the Swede scored an incredible 43 goals for Sporting. He has an amazing track record of being fit and has never missed a club match due to an injury.

Gyokeres can also create opportunities and is far more adept with the ball at his feet. In contrast to Osimhen’s four assists in all competitions at the club level last season, he recorded fifteen.
