HERE WE GO: Man united complete the signing of £50m defender after Leny Yoro injury set back, player to undergo medical tomorrow – announcement tomorrow morning

Due to Leny Yoro’s most recent injury setback, which will prevent him from playing for three months, Manchester United is now actively looking to add a replacement centre-back.

While they’ve been keeping an eye on Matthijs de Ligt for a while, they also have other ideas.

According to yesterday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (news graphic below), Gleison Bremer, a defender for Juventus, is one name the Red Devils would consider.

According to the Italian source, Man Utd may “tempt” the Brazilian defender in the coming days with a sizable bid.

Liverpool, a Premier League foe, is keeping an eye on a move for Bremer as well. Liverpool hasn’t done much in the transfer market thus far.

Back in May, we reported on a story that said Manchester United was “most interested” in signing Juventus’ Gleison Bremer. But it appears that the club has moved on to players like Yoro and De Ligt.

According to CorSport, the Juventus defender’s contract with the Old Lady contains a release clause valued at about £55.6 million (66 million euros), and it expires on August 10 in ten days.

The difficult task of replacing Bremer in the backline will perhaps pose a greater challenge for Juventus. It will be extremely difficult to replace the 27-year-old Brazilian, who has shown to be among the greatest defenders in Serie A in recent seasons.

Bremer’s signing by Man Utd would probably mean that De Ligt’s dream of playing at Old Trafford is over. But Erik ten Hag needs to add a high-profile player to central defence because of an injury that makes him switch back to Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof.

Bremer would work well with Ten Hag’s style of play with Manchester United. As a no-nonsense defender, he might strengthen the Red Devils’ defence when paired with Lisandro Martinez.

It is rather improbable, though, that Juventus will actively pursue the sale of a player who can serve as the foundation of their next endeavour. It is unclear if Dan Ashworth and company are prepared to activate Bremer’s £55.6 million release clause in order to close this acquisition.
