“I heard my replacement is in Manchester ahead of his medical today but that won’t discourage me from fighting for my position… However, I’m disappointed by the Club because is this all I deserve after doing so much for the Club?”: Harry Maguire angered by Man United’s decision to sign his replacement without proper consultation as the Player spotted in Manchester ahead of big money move

“I’ve heard that my replacement is in Manchester for his medical checkup today, but that won’t stop me from battling for my job. But after giving the Club so much, is this all I deserve? I’m disappointed with the Club. Harry Maguire is upset that Man United signed his replacement without first consulting him, despite the fact that the player was seen in Manchester before making a significant transfer.

Harry Maguire, who is getting ready to bounce back from the “toughest moment of my career,” has stated he has no plans to leave Manchester United.

The England defender may have quit the team that summer due to interest from West Ham after being stripped of the United leadership a year earlier.

Nevertheless, Maguire overcame disappointment and scepticism to re-establish himself in the lineup, only to experience the heartache of being injured and missing the FA Cup and Euro 2024.

Speaking publicly for the first time about the circumstances during United’s preseason tour of the US, Maguire admitted, “Yeah, it was probably the toughest moment of my career.”

In order to be in a good enough physical and mental state to play in the FA Cup final and then consider the Euros, I worked extremely hard throughout the year.

“And then to have an injury that, to be honest, wasn’t that bad—it was only a three-week calf issue—well, however I only experienced three failures with it.

After seeing United defeat Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup from the stands at Wembley, Maguire did initially re-join England in an attempt to demonstrate his fitness with teammate Luke Shaw, but he was forced to withdraw following yet another setback.

The saddest part of it, he says, was that he had some hope of travelling to Germany, where England was defeated by Spain in the final, only to have that dream taken away.

“I believed I would be ready for the FA Cup final when I initially suffered the injury. I therefore prepared myself for the final, but I was eliminated due to a setback I experienced in the week before.

Once more, there was no issue at that time. “I was ready for the European Championships.” That was really frustrating. Then, when I travelled with England, I experienced another setback.

Looking back, I wish I had no chance to interact with any of them so I could have understood the situation better. However, I had high expectations that I would play in the Cup final or otherwise be involved, and I was positive that I would be involved at the Euros, but those expectations were not realised.

It was undoubtedly the hardest time in my career—perhaps I was just pushing myself to return too soon.

“I overcame it and continued to stay in touch with many of the boys, many of whom are now my very close and dear friends.

“They helped me feel like I was still a part of the group, even though it was difficult that I wasn’t over there. Although it was difficult to be away, I was still able to enjoy the summer by watching the guys play and spend large amounts of time with my family and friends—all of whom are ardent England supporters.

After letting go of Raphael Varane, United bought France Under-21 defender Leny Yoro from Lille for £58.8 million this summer. They may still add another centre-back due to interest in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

Victor Lindelof might be sold, and questions have persisted about Maguire’s future. Notwithstanding the optimism surrounding the club’s direction under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the 31-year-old is resolved to stay and once again prove his worth at Old Trafford. He has reached the final year of his contract, however he has the option to extend by an additional 12 months.

“Listen, I want to play for this club and help it succeed again until I’m told, ‘You’re up for sale or we want you to leave,'” declared Maguire.

I’ll be a member of this group going forward based on what I’ve heard and seen from everyone involved. At Manchester United, 15 players leave the team each summer and each transfer window, while 45 players join.

“I believe all players are aware of the fact. I have a year left on my contract as a player, and I have an option. However, they have never told me that I will search for other possibilities if they decide they no longer want me.

“Everyone associated with the club is experiencing exciting times, and the club is unquestionably heading back in the right path. It is excellent to watch as a player and a supporter of the team.

Although Maguire acknowledges that the players’ performance suffered last season when they finished eighth in the Premier League, he is happy that Ratcliffe and his Ineos staff stuck with Erik ten Hag.

“It was difficult; I thought some of the things that were revealed before the Cup final were really bad,” Maguire remarked. “Ten Hag handled it in a superb manner.

“We really did fall off around Christmas, so it probably hurt our results and performances a little bit throughout the season [the news that Ineos had agreed to purchase a minority stake in the club].”

However, the management deserves praise for the manner he handled it. It was truly amazing how he handled the build-up and how he was able to turn things around with a performance similar to ours in the cup final.

Given the ambiguity surrounding Ten Hag’s role—the club has spoken to six different managers on the position—Maguire acknowledges that the post-Wembley mood was unusual.
