Viktoria Plzen, the coach of Manchester United, identified the team’s lone weak player yesterday. “I told my players to mark him because he was the weak link in their midst, and unfortunately for us we were able to hold them for draw during the halftime.”

The manager of Viktoria Plzen has disclosed that he instructed his team to focus on Manchester United’s weak point in Thursday’s Europa League match.

Rasmus Hojlund came off the bench to score two goals, including the game-winning goal in the 88th minute that put Ruben Amorim’s team up to seventh place in the Europa League standings. United overcame a deficit to become the first team since Barcelona to defeat Plzen on their own field.

For extended periods, United had a frustrating evening in challenging circumstances. Shortly after halftime, Matej Vydra, a former Watford and Burnley striker, opened the goal, putting United behind 1-0.

Goalie Andre Onana attempted to play out from the back and gave the ball away cheaply, which allowed the home team to take advantage of the mistake and punish the Cameroonian.

This season, Onana has mostly been dependable and strong in goal, but he made two costly mistakes in the 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest, including one that allowed Morgan Gibbs-White to score from a great distance.

Additionally, Miroslav Koubek, the manager of Plzen and a former goalie, said that he instructed his team to target Onana and shoot whenever an opportunity arose.

Koubek responded, “Yes, that was our tactic,” when asked if he instructed his players to “really put pressure” on Onana. I advised them to take advantage of every chance they had; perhaps I’m disappointed by the final attempt, which could have been handled more skillfully. However, the player chose to fire, so that is what it is.

However, former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves attributed some of the blame to Matthijs De Ligt, who “didn’t really want the ball,” even if Onana was ultimately to blame for the mistake.

Hargreaves stated on TNT Sports that “Andre Onana and Matthijs de Ligt could both be at fault there, but Onana a little bit more.”

“De Ligt was not at all interested in the ball. Onana ultimately makes a bad pass. Ruben Amorim, however, expects his center-backs to enter and take the ball.

Onana plays a bad ball and on the incorrect side, and De Ligt looks uncomfortable receiving it on the half turn.

“Being in that position is challenging for a center-back, but you will follow instructions from the manager.”

When United plays rivals Manchester City in a major derby match at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, they will be back in action.

Given that Pep Guardiola’s team has only won once in their previous ten games across all competitions, United will feel as though they can halt the skid this weekend. Their last victory at their neighbors’ home field was a 2-0 victory in 2021.
