If Liam Manning is fired, Norwich City is looking for Stoke City’s manager and former Wolves manager to take over.
Norwich City are apparently looking into a number of prospective Liam Manning successors.
The Canaries have had a disappointing start to the 2025/26 season, winning only two of their first ten league games and sitting 20th in the table.
Several changes occurred at Carrow Road throughout the summer, including the appointment of Liam Manning as manager, which prompted optimism among the Norfolk side’s fans.
Manning had just taken Bristol City to the play-offs for the first time in 17 years, albeit operating with a substantially smaller budget.
Given Norwich’s improved money and player quality, it seemed only inevitable that their new manager would achieve even more success with the club.
However, this does not appear to be the case, as the Canaries are currently winless in six league matches.
Rumours of a possible manager change at Carrow Road have begun to circulate as the club falls farther away from play-off contention.
Mark Robins has reported to the head list of Liam Manning replacements.
Naturally, Manning has been under increasing criticism as a result of Norwich’s recent dismal performance.
If the Canaries sense that things aren’t going well with their new manager, cutting their losses as quickly as possible could help them avoid falling farther behind the top six.
According to writer Graeme Bailey via X, the Norfolk club is preparing to cut ways with Manning and has already identified prospective successors.
These contenders include Mark Robins, Gary O’Neil, and Danny Rohl, with Stoke City’s current manager being their top choice.
Bailey claims that Robins’ contract with the Potters included a release provision.
The 55-year-old was appointed Stoke City manager in January, following the termination of his seven-year tenure at Coventry City a few months earlier.
Stoke have started the current season impressively, collecting points in eight of their first ten league games to sit third in the table.
Getting Mark Robins away from Stoke City would be a big ask.
Although Norwich may be expecting to obtain Robins’ services if Manning is fired, this may be a more difficult challenge than anticipated.
Stoke City have had their best start to a season since being relegated from the Premier League in 2018, and will be desperate not to let anything upset that momentum.
Losing Robins would be a big setback for the Potters’ squad and would almost certainly have an impact on on-field performances.
A purported release clause could make it easier for the Canaries to sign the 55-year-old, but his willingness to leave Stoke for Norwich would still be required to complete the transfer.
If Norfolk decides to fire Manning, they may have to rely on one of their other possibilities.
