‘Isak has got to be careful’ – Newcastle star sent warning about Celtic icon over Liverpool stance

While Celtic fans await transfer news concerning their own team, a major transfer story involving Liverpool and Newcastle has brought the Parkhead club’s name into the mix.

Alexander Isak has taken a harsh line with Newcastle United after the club vetoed a £110 million transfer to Liverpool.

Since then, The Standard has reported that Isak has told Newcastle that he will never play for them again, which reminded Jim White of a story about a former Celtic player from the late 1990s.

When discussing Isak’s situation with Newcastle, the talkSPORT host was reminded of an incident involving ex-Celtic striker Pierre van Hooijdonk and how he attempted to force a move from Nottingham Forest.

And it’s one Isak should really pay attention to.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak issued a warning regarding former Celtic striker Pierre van Hooijdonk.
Pierre van Hooijdonk will be remembered fondly by Celtic fans for his goal in the 1996 Scottish Cup final, which broke the club’s six-year trophy drought.

However, the huge Dutchman’s antics at Nottingham Forest prompted White to issue a warning to the want-away Newcastle star.

White told talkSPORT, “Do you know anything? This brought back memories for me, and I believe Isak should exercise caution.

“Because it took me back to, I believe it was 1997/98. I had recently been to Sky. Pierre van Hooijdonk, who previously played for Celtic and subsequently Nottingham Forest, was initially successful at the latter.

“He stated that he had previously been advised that he might quit the club, and that the club’s owners had failed to deliver on their pledges to strengthen the team.

“Forest played hardball. refused to allow him to be transferred again. But he returned to Holland and virtually trained with NEC Breda, saying, ‘Tell me when this is all sorted’.

“It was not resolved, and the club won the day. He had to return, and he played for them again. Not for long. But he had to return.
