“it doesn’t happen in football” – Frank Lampard speaks on Blackburn Rovers and shares a shocking praise message after Coventry City’s return to EFL Championship league lead

Frank Lampard complimented Blackburn Rovers for showing his Coventry City players that triumphs aren’t always easy or high-scoring.

The Sky Blues came into Saturday’s game after three strong victories in the eight days preceding the international break — 3-0 over Birmingham, 4-0 over Millwall, and 5-0 over Sheffield Wednesday. However, Blackburn made life difficult for Coventry until two quick second-half goals from Victor Torp and Brandon Thomas-Asante within three minutes clinched a 2-0 win, giving Coventry their sixth straight clean sheet and returning them to the Championship’s top spot.

Reflecting on the first half, Lampard stated:

“Credit to Blackburn in the opening half. They arrived with an aggressive, structured attitude and were eager to compete man-to-man over the pitch. They made it tough for us to establish our regular rhythm and control, and they deserve credit.”

He stated that a tactical change at halfway helped tilt the game in Coventry’s favour.

“We made a minor adjustment at halftime that benefited the players. It’s critical for our team to understand that we can’t expect to dominate every game and win 3-0, 4-0, or 5-0; football doesn’t work that way.”

Returning to the top of the rankings, Lampard was measured:

“It’s good to be on top, and I like it for the people. Our job is to keep them motivated while continuing to work hard. This encounter provided a terrific opportunity for everyone — players and supporters alike — to show that things are not always easy. Scoring two key goals despite not being at our best demonstrates the squad’s character. Rushy made a crucial save in the first half, and we dominated the game after that. There are many positives to take from a difficult game.”
