‘It’s a shame’ – Enzo Maresca blames Premier League rules for Chelsea’s transfer policy as Conor Gallagher nears exit

According to Enzo Maresca, Chelsea does not plan to sell players from the academy for the purpose of making a profit; yet, the rules of the Premier League require the Blues to do so.

Next Sunday, Chelsea will play host to Manchester City, the team that now holds the title of league champions. The manager of Chelsea is getting ready to begin his first season at Stamford Bridge.

However, the focus of the attention surrounding the next season has been more on the sale of one of their native stars than it has been on the actual football that will be played.

There have been some Chelsea supporters who have been left furious by the growing pattern of owner Todd Boehly and co selling academy graduates. Conor Gallagher has agreed to a five-year deal with Atletico Madrid, who have negotiated a deal worth 33 million pounds.

In light of the fact that the Blues’ fees are considered to be a pure profit in accordance with the Profit and Sustainability Rules, there is a widespread belief among fans that the club would continue to sell its homegrown players. However, Maresca has emphasised that this is not the club’s aim.

In response to a question about whether or not he was certain that Chelsea is still making an effort to promote players from the academy rather than simply selling them for profit, the former Leicester manager responded, “Absolutely.”

“I also believe that the club’s objective is not to sell players from the academy; yet, it is the rules that require you to do so at the end of the day. Not only are we affected, but every club in the Premier League is as well.

“It’s unfortunate because in Italy, we have David Totti with Roma, who has been with the same club for twenty years.

The fans are eager to witness a one-club-man, which is something that we adore in football. The rules that are in place now, however, make it different from the past.

When Maresca was asked about the fact that the Chelsea squad costs one billion pounds, he said that his club was not the only one doing so.

“Yeah, but it is not only Chelsea spending money on players,” he explained to reporters. “It is all the major clubs that are attempting to purchase players.

Among the clubs, there are some that spend more money than others. From a purely personal standpoint, I believe that it is unfortunate since we really enjoy watching a one-club man, but the regulations are different.

When he was asked whether he thinks the Premier League should change their rules, he responded by saying, “If they want to protect academy players, then probably yes.”

Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are just a few of the former Chelsea junior players who have been sold as part of the Clearlake Capital group, which is owned by Boehly.

In the summer of this year, Aston Villa purchased Ian Maatsen for a price of £37.5 million, and Lewis Hall was sold to Newcastle for a price of £28 million.
