Juventus is considering a summer transfer for Marcus Edwards, a former Tottenham winger who might still bring in a sizable quantity of money for the north London team.

Marcus Edwards’ contract has a sell-on clause, which may mean financial windfall for Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou. Edwards was traded from London to the Portuguese team Vitoria Guimaraes in 2019 for a little over £1 million; the deal contained a shrewd 50% sell-on clause.

He was sold to Sporting CP in 2022 for £6.6 million after making an impression at his new team; Spurs kept half of this amount as a result of their clever clause. In order to facilitate Pedro Porro’s transfer in January 2023, the club subsequently lowered their sell-on clause to 35 percent, as Football London revealed earlier this year.

This means that if Edwards is ever sold by Sporting again, Spurs will get thirty-five percent of the proceeds. Now that the summer transfer market is open, Edwards is attracting interest from Juventus.

Jadon Sancho of Manchester United had been the initial target for the Italian team, but no deal has been completed despite the player’s early desire, according to Football Italia. Even if he did advocate for a transfer to Italy, he would now have to contend with rival players that Juventus is pursuing.

Furthermore, it appears that the United winger is getting close to joining PSG, which would seriously doubt a transfer to Juventus, according to claims from The Independent.

Given the circumstances surrounding Sancho, Serie A powerhouse Juventus has stepped up their search for substitute targets, with 25-year-old Edwards among them. According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus is considering purchasing the English winger, who might go for about €25 million (£21.4 million).

As a result, Spurs might be entitled to 35 percent of any earnings from the sale of Edwards to Sporting. If Juventus meets Edwards’ club’s value, Spurs might benefit up to £4 million on the sale of a player they released in 2019.

Although Portuguese publication A Bola reports that Edwards is receiving interest from Italy, no formal offers have been made as of yet. The money from the winger’s sell-on clause might be used to bolster the Spurs team if he leaves this summer.

Postecoglou, the manager of Spurs, is still optimistic that his club will be more prepared for the 2024–2025 campaign. The 58-year-old, who just welcomed Dominic Solanke to the team, stated in an interview with Men in Blazers: “I think we’ll have grown a lot from last year of understanding about ourselves.” We were thrilling when we performed well. Everyone was talking about us, I believe.

“When things were going well, it was much simpler to stick with something, so when we had to grind, we found a way to get there, but there was definitely a period in there where we didn’t handle interruptions too well.

We didn’t handle it well, but we got a lot from it. “We had some disruptions in terms of injuries and suspensions, as well as some lack of discipline there, which happens with young players,” the coach said. Without a doubt, this year’s team is more prepared than the one from last, and we’ll be a more mature group.
