Former Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor has contacted Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators as he considers a potential takeover of the club.

That’s according to writer Alan Myers, who claims Textor has confirmed to him that he has spoken with Wednesday’s administrators about purchasing the South Yorkshire club.

After months of financial and off-field turbulence, former Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri placed the club and the company through which he owns the stadium into administration on Friday, bringing an end to his troubled decade-long stint at Hillsborough.

Despite the fact that Wednesday has only been in administration for a few days, it appears that there are no shortage of suitors for the club, with joint-administrator Kris Wigfield confirming on Monday that “there are already four or five interested parties that look like the real deal,” and hinting that a takeover deal could be completed before the end of the year.

While a number of respectable parties have expressed interest, it may be some time before a preferred bidder is chosen, with Wigfield saying that the club must be on the market for 28 days per EFL regulations, but it appears Textor is now pushing up his attempt to buy the Owls.

John Textor makes touch with Sheffield Wednesday administration as the takeover bid continues.

Textor was a co-owner of Premier League team Crystal Palace until June of this year, when he sold his 43% ownership to Woody Johnson for £190 million, and his firm, Eagle Football Holdings, owns French side Lyon, Brazilian outfit Botafogo, and Belgian club RWDM Brussels.

Despite his continued influence at three teams, Textor is said to be eager to add another English club to his network, and he has long been linked with a takeover of Wednesday, with his interest first reported in June.

Textor claimed earlier this month that he had “a little bit of interaction” with former owner Chansiri about a possible acquisition, and that the Owls were “one of the clubs that we’re looking at,” although he admitted that the level of his involvement had been “a bit overstated.”

Textor’s situation took an unexpected turn on Monday when The Athletic reported that he had made a £400 million bid for Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, while it was also revealed that he is keeping an eye on Championship quartet Charlton Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Derby County, and Watford as he continues to investigate his options.

Despite making a move for Wolves and contemplating other second-tier possibilities, Myers believes Textor has confirmed to him that he is still interested in Wednesday, and the 60-year-old has met with the club’s administrators.

Sheffield Wednesday fans will have mixed John Textor emotions with a new takeover update.

Textor has been connected with a takeover of Wednesday in recent months, and it is evident that the American tycoon has a strong interest in the club, but he is a divisive character in sport.

Crystal Palace were booted out of this season’s Europa League for their role in Textor’s multi-club ownership group, while another of his clubs, Lyon, were administratively relegated from the French top flight in the summer before being given a reprieve.

Textor is a wealthy individual and an experienced football operator, and to his credit, his clubs have had a lot of success on the field during his tenure, but after the turmoil of the Chansiri era, Owls fans may be a little nervous about him taking over their club.
