Before the start of yet another new season, Manchester City is still the favourite to win the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Arsenal and Liverpool in the previous season to add another trophy to the collection, but they will be well aware that their opponents will do everything in their power to break the Sky Blues’ reign.

The secret to City’s previous success has been their ability to hold onto important players, and it appears that this summer will be no different as key players are expected to stay put.

Kevin De Bruyne is one well-known player who has been linked to a move away, but Guardiola recently stated he expects the Belgian to be a part of his plans for 2024–2025.

A summary of the most recent transfer rumours is provided below.

De Bruyne ruling

Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Pro League team, is said to have lost interest in De Bruyne.

The City star was rumoured to have accepted personal conditions to relocate to the Middle East in recent weeks, but it appears that a deal is less likely to be completed.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Al-Ittihad thought the Sky Blues’ decision on the player’s price was “too high,” especially considering the 33-year-old’s one-year deal remaining. It is further stated that Al-Ittihad is “confident” that with Houssem Aouar’s transfer from Lyon, they now have a competitive midfield unit.

Midfield departure

Jacob Wright, a midfielder in the Man City academy, is rumoured to have agreed to a loan deal with League One Peterborough United.

Last season, the Posh made a similar move when they temporarily signed City defender Jadel Katongo, which worked out well for the 19-year-old. Wright, who has been a member of City since he was eight years old, will now take Katongo’s place.

According to Football Insider, a number of teams have shown interest in the 18-year-old, but Peterborough is “closing in” on signing him.

Wright earned his professional debut last season after making an appearance in an FA Cup third-round match against Huddersfield Town in January, having advanced from the under-18s group to the EDS. He played in the club’s current preseason tour and was given his second first-team debut in March during City’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg against FC Copenhagen.
