Kobbie Mainoo ‘demands huge pay increase’ to reject Chelsea transfer and sign new Man Utd contract
It has been reported that Kobbie Mainoo, a rising star at Manchester United, has requested a significant raise in his salary in order to reject Chelsea’s interest and sign a new contract with the club.
Despite the fact that Mainoo’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2027, Manchester United is eager to extend it after his outstanding performance during the 2023/24 season, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
On the other hand, Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail has disclosed that Chelsea is keeping a close eye on the situation and is prepared to make a move in the event that Mainoo does not agree to fresh terms with United.
Despite the recent appointment of Ruben Amorim as manager and encouraging moments, such as the 2-2 draw against Liverpool, the 19-year-old midfielder is believed to be uncertain about the club’s future orientation. This is despite the circumstances that have led to the appointment of Amorim. Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo are the only two players who are thought to be off-limits for moves, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. This is despite the fact that United supporters may not anticipate or desire Mainoo to leave the club.
Concerns have been sparked by additional reports from the Daily Mail over the current state of Mainoo’s contract, which may cause United supporters to feel anxious. There is a widespread belief that neither Mainoo nor Alejandro Garnacho, whose contracts are set to expire in 2028, are totally protected from being made available for sale. Due to the fact that both of these players emerged from within the club, their departures have the potential to create “pure profit” for the club, which would assist in meeting the objectives of the Premier League regarding Profit and Sustainability.
It was previously reported by the Manchester Evening News that United aims to comply with laws after paying compensation to Erik ten Hag and to Sporting for Amorim. However, it is possible that their financial constraints would restrict their spending in January.
It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Mainoo, who is only 19 years old, is requesting a weekly wage of about £200,000 in the event that United decides to extend his contract. For the time being, it is not obvious whether this is only a bargaining strategy or whether it is his true demand; nonetheless, it appears that United is the one who will make the decision.
