Kris Boyd’s concise five-word message to Danny Rohl following the’shambles’ Rangers recruitment process
The former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest striker is not scared to voice his thoughts.
Kris Boyd responded to Danny Rohl’s hiring at Ibrox with a straightforward advice on how to achieve there.
Following Russell Martin’s resignation, a lengthy appointment process has finally come to a conclusion at Ibrox, with Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart appearing to have found their man. That being said, with so many setbacks, including Rohl himself at one point, who knows who was the first choice Ibrox management candidate. Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat appeared to be in contention for the position at various points during the race, but both withdrew owing to timing concerns.
Steven Smith led Rangers to a 2-2 tie against Dundee United on Saturday and appeared to be in charge of SK Brann, but this will be Rohl’s first game in charge. As the German leads his team to Norway, former Rangers striker and outspoken pundit Kris Boyd has a simple message for the new manager.

“He has to get results.”
Boyd expressed his worries about the Rangers board in an interview with Sky Sports, as well as a message to Rohl. He stated: “It’s been a catastrophe. There is no getting away from it. Rangers will tell you that they had to go through a process to reach Danny Rohl.
“When you look back, I believe the timing was not ideal for Steven Gerrard, especially within a few hours. I’m not buying it. He rushed on an aircraft and flew from Bahrain to London to meet Rangers, only to realise a few hours later that the timing was not perfect.
“Kevin Muscat was far down the road with him, but it felt like he was the one to take him ahead, so why didn’t they wait? So, there are a lot of inconsistencies, but Rohl is the man who has been appointed as the new Rangers head coach, and I’ll say it again: he needs to get results.”

Rohl is a well regarded coach, according to SmartFrame data.
Boyd went on to say, “It has been a lengthy, drawn-out process. I suppose Rangers always had Danny Rohl in the running; they spoke to him in the summer as well, but decided to go with Russell Martin ahead of him, which didn’t work out and they had to release him of his duties.
“He’s (Rohl) a very good coach, as evidenced by his work at Sheffield Wednesday and for the German National Team under Hansi Flick, among other positions. He is well-regarded in terms of coaching, but Russell Martin was exactly the same, and Glasgow is a difficult environment to manage.”
“Whatever happens in the next several weeks, Danny Rohl needs to figure out how to get this Rangers squad to win football games. They’ve only won one league game all season, a gritty win over Livingston in the final minute! So it’s an underperforming squad, and it’s now up to him to bring out the best in them.”
