Man Utd ‘appoint’ Dan Ashworth replacement and they will start work immediately ahead of January transfer window

Prior to the January transfer window, Manchester United has already named a replacement for former sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Ashworth quit his position as sporting director after only five months, United shockingly announced last week.

The 53-year-old was acquired by United from Newcastle United, who were compensated when Ashworth moved to Old Trafford, and joined the team in July.

And now, as United gets set for the transfer window to open next month, his replacement has already been named.

The Daily Mail claims that Jason Wilcox, who became technical director of United in April, will serve as Ashworth’s temporary replacement as sporting director until the January transfer window opens.

Wilcox should now be the point of contact for any scouting reports and for any recruitment matters, according to an email sent to club workers informing them of the move.

Following Ashworth’s unexpected resignation, Christopher Vivel, the club’s interim director of recruitment, will also assume a more significant role.

According to reports, United would think about appointing another CEO, but they won’t bring in a successor that would precisely fit Ashworth’s position at the club.

New United manager Ruben Amorim was questioned about Ashworth’s abrupt departure prior to Wednesday’s Europa League matchup against Viktoria Plzen.

“One person leaving doesn’t change nothing,” he stated.

“I have had a lot of support from the ownership since the first day, from Omar (Berrada) and Jason (Wilcox), and I also got a lot of support from Dan.

“This is football. It may happen to coaches as well as athletes at times. It’s a dreadful scenario, of course. We are discussing a professional and a person who helps us work together.

“But I think the most important thing is the vision is really clear, and the vision doesn’t change if one person leaves.”

“Mutual agreement” was the official club statement confirming Ashworth’s departure from United.
