Manchester United given green light to close Frenkie De Jong deal: report

After years of pursuing the superstar, Manchester United is making another attempt to get Frenkie De Jong, who has been a long-term desire for the club.

There is a renewed interest from Manchester United in Frenkie De Jong. This time, it is an offer that is truly remarkable.

Ever since Erik ten Hag finally showed up at Old Trafford, there have been sporadic rumours that the Dutchman is interested in joining the Red Devils. Ajax, which was coached by Ten Hag and advanced to the semifinals of the Champions League in 2019, was led by De Jong, who played a vital role in the team’s success. Since then, the former manager has been interested in acquiring the midfielder.

The fact is, however, that De Jong has never been sufficiently persuaded to leave Barcelona. It is said that Barca would be interested in the money, but given that De Jong is now under a lucrative contract, it is tough to convince them to part with the 27-year-old player.

It’s possible that this will soon happen. According to TEAMtalk, which cites reports from Spain, Barcelona is getting ready to give the “greenlight” to De Jong’s departure from the Catalan club, which has been long predicted.

It is believed that Manchester United has been so eager to complete this transaction that they have even offered Antony as a makeweight in the deal. This is because they are so desperate to get this one over the line. It should come as no surprise that Barcelona has reportedly turned down the opportunity to bring the struggling Brazilian player on board. Lamine Yamal is said to be their first-choice option for the right wing position.

However, despite the fact that both clubs are interested in a deal in principle – with the La Liga club reportedly being willing to make a low-cost transfer of as little as £34 million in order to remove De Jong from their roster of players – there may still be a significant amount of time left to negotiate. There has been no agreement reached as of yet.

The same may be said for De Jong’s group as well. According to FourFourTwo, this is a key move in the story because the case for United to sign the midfielder has been revived. However, from the player’s point of view, there has been no change and the situation remains the same. In addition to reselling the project, United will still be required to provide De Jong with special compensation.

United may have a stronger hand this time around, as they already have the Dutchman Joshua Zirkzee in their possession, and there are rumours that a transfer for Matthijs De Ligt, who is a personal friend of De Jong, is in the works. With the development of Kobbie Mainoo, however, the need for such a No. 8 in the Red Devils’ roster has been negated, and it appears that there may be more affordable possibilities accessible. Not to mention, there may be more relevant profiles to sign.

According to Transfermarkt, De Jong is valued seventy million euros. In 2026, his contract will come to an end.
