Cameron Carter-Vickers has provided a favorable report on his fitness, stating that he is ‘good’ with his present physical state.

The USA international is now in his fifth season with the club, having joined on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on Deadline Day in 2021.

Carter-Vickers, a pillar in Celtic’s defence when healthy, has had his fair share of knocks and injuries, forcing him out of duty on several times. However, following a minor treatment at the end of last season, the 27-year-old is prepared for the hectic season ahead. “I feel good,” he explained.

“I underwent a little knee procedure at the end of last year. I feel good and fit right now. It all comes down to being consistent with your efforts on a daily basis. When you have that, you will naturally incorporate it into the games.

“The more consistent you can be in each and every game, generally, the better the outcome.”

Celtic’s backline received a major blow on Wednesday night against FC Kairat, as right-back Alistair Johnston was stretchered off in the first half owing to a hamstring injury.

With the Canada stalwart now out of play for up to 12 weeks, as confirmed by his manager in Friday’s press conference, Anthony Ralston will most likely fill in, with rising prospect Colby Donovan providing backup.

Carter-Vickers believes that his long-time defensive teammate can stand up in Johnston’s absence. “That’s what you want – you want a squad where everyone’s ready to play and ready to make an impact,” he told me.

“To be fair to Tony (Ralston), I believe he does well every time he plays, even when he hasn’t played in a few weeks. That demonstrates his professionalism and the way he works at the training field on a daily basis to stay prepared.

“As a squad, we take pride in our defensive effort. It begins at the top of the pitch with pressing and counter-pressing, then returns to the back four and goalie to keep the goals out.

“Having a clean sheet is usually a good thing.
